Laurel Middle School students receive state art awards
Laurel Middle School art students recently submitted works of art to the Scholastic Art Awards hosted by the Mississippi Museum of Art. Out of over 2,000 pieces submitted from across the state, five Laurel Middle School students were awarded honors. Images of the students actually works will be on a scrolling display at the Mississippi Museum of Art.
Seventh grader Amiah White received Honorable Mention for her mixed media of fabric on canvas titled “African Beauty.”
Seventh grader Alayna Smith received Honorable Mention for her mixed media of tissue paper, yarn, rocks, buttons, fabric and other recycled items titled “Chapter One.”
Seventh grader Allyiah Johnston received a Silver Key for her self-portrait painted on DVD cases. Seventh grader Alicia Terry received Honorable Mention for her oil painting titled “The Joys of Being a Baby.”
Eighth grader Lyric Pugh received a Silver Key for her recycled dress made of cupcake liners, broken CDs and plastic titled “Prom Ready.”
